Why Being Intimidating is a Good Thing

A lot of people are under the impression that if you are in some way intimidating, you are doing something wrong in life. The fact of the matter is that if you are being intimidating, this means that you are doing the right thing because of the fact that people that are intimidating tend to be taken more seriously in life in a lot of different ways. Being intimidating is beneficial for you for a wide variety of other reasons as well, reasons that are going to lead to everything else that you are going to be working on all in all.

When you think about it, people that are intimidating tend to be natural leaders. There is also the fact that the world has the tendency for being a rather dangerous place, and no one is ever going to think that you have what it takes to truly enjoy life if you are not trying to protect yourself as well as some of the other people that you might be responsible for such as your wife and children who are going to be dependent on you to protect them at least in some way.

Someone that is intimidating is going to have all of the badass quotes that they can think of ready to go whenever you are going to find that someone is trying to talk down to you. No one is going to want to mess with you if you are intimidating because of the fact that they are going to be too scared to do so, and this means that you are going to be able to go through the rest of your life never having to worry about anything else at all.

Selling Your Artwork Using Images And Words

There is no denying that artists happen to be some of the most creative bunch of people you will come across. However, when the entire landscape is so saturated, going ahead and calling yourself an artist is not something that is surprising to a lot of people. Keeping that in mind, the right thing to do in a situation like that is standing out from the rest because your work might not be able to represent the way you want it to represent you.

If you are thinking about selling your artwork, simply putting it up on the internet, or an art gallery is simply not going to be enough because it might lead to no sales at all, and you might have to wait a long time before a potential buyer comes up.

This is where you use your artistic abilities for your advantage. You are an artist, and using images, and words is a great way to sell your artwork with ease.

In this article, we are going to explore how you can do that.

Use Creative Titles And Descriptions

As a photographer, every time I take a photo, I use a single word that I associate the most with it. The word can be anything ranging from feeling, or just a word that in my mind, describes that picture. Artists have the license to say a lot of things. If you are an artist, no matter what artwork you are selling, do not just go ahead and call it “original” because that is the least original thing you can do.

Instead, make use of creative titles and descriptions in order to make the artwork look more authentic, original, and something that can intrigue people.

Use Multiple Images

If you are putting your artwork up for sale, and you want to share a few images of the artwork, do not just take a single picture of the canvas and try to sell it. Instead, use multiple images, preferably showing the artwork from different angles, and different perspectives. You want to be able to capture the perspective of the potential buyer, remember?

Social Media is Great

The sad part about most of the modern day artists is that they think of social media as a thing or an entity that should not exist. This is not something that happens to be an ideal choice because it could lead to some discrepancies that we really do not want to go through with.

If you are trying to sell your artwork, make use of social media as much as possible. There are so many forums and websites that are dedicated to artists selling their art with ease. Why not go ahead and utilize all that for the sake of selling what you wish to sell.

Write About Yourself

Do not leave the “about me” section empty, you ought to be able to give some insight to the readers because if you can’t, then it won’t be much, to begin with.

Understanding Exclusivity in an Artist Contract

If you happen to be an artist, and you are signing a contract, then you might come across some exclusivity terms. Most artists often overlook it because they are too ecstatic of the fact that they are about to make some money. However, the term exclusivity mostly refers to a condition that ensures that the artist cannot create or sell reproductions of the work that he or she has done. Which simply means that if you have just painted something for a client under the contract, once you get paid, you are basically transferring the ownership of that painting to the client, and no matter what you do, you cannot sell or recreate the same painting you just sold.

How Can I Tell?

Well, the thing is that the contracts that you sign follow a certain wording that can tell a lot of things. If the wording talks about how you are transferring the copyrights to the client, it simply means that you are signing the exclusivity part of the deal. Additionally, exclusivity can also be worded like stating that you are not allowed to sell any prints, or reproduce the same artwork.

If you are not sure about what the wording means or indicates, simply talk to the client, or better yet higher legal advice.

Should You Go For Exclusivity?

This is something that is entirely on you. Just keep in mind that if selling prints helps your business in generating any sort of income, you should keep in mind that signing the deal will rid you of that income source. You can compensate for that by increasing the price of the artwork that you are selling and see if the client agrees.

Can I Refuse The Exclusivity Request?

Well, of course, you can. As long as you have not signed the contract, the artwork belongs to you. However, there are certain situations under which you should simply refuse to sign the exclusivity contract.

  1. If you are simply not okay with signing away any rights to the artwork that you have just created. This is because you can still profit from the artwork in the form of prints, and by signing the contract, you are giving away your rights.
  2. In another situation, if you think that the money that the client is offering you is not enough based on the artwork that you have created, you can refuse to sign the contract. However, in a situation like that, if you are okay with letting go of the rights, but you want to be given more money just because you think that the artwork is worth more, then you do have the right to ask for more money.

Once you go through these, you will actually start understanding how the exclusivity section in the artist contracts works. Do not worry if you are overwhelmed at first, as many people are. Giving away rights is not always bad either.

How to Generate Passive Income as an Artist

Being an artist is great, however, the thing with being an artist is that there are no monthly payments, or fees that you are getting that can keep things going. Sure, when you do sell your art, you get paid handsomely, but the most important thing that you must know is that being an artist, and having a passive income is something that happens to be extremely important.

Passive income is not just great for artists, but for everyone regardless of the nature of the work, they are doing. Through this income, they are basically making sure that they have enough money stream coming in, and they do not have to worry about financials all that much.

So, as an artist, what can one do to have a passive income source? Well, that is what we are going to be looking at today.

Start Selling Instructional Videos

You are an artist, and selling your art is not the only thing you can do. As a matter of fact, you can even sell your skills at art. Whatever art you choose as your medium, being an artist looking for a passive income stream, you can start selling instructional videos. Believe it or not but there is a huge list of artists that are selling their instructional videos as lessons.

You can choose to sell them individually, or you can sell them as a bundle. Additionally, you can start conducting classes as well.

Start a YouTube Channel

There is a famous guitarist Andy James who has three albums released in his name as well. When he is not touring or doing another thing similar to that, he is recording and uploading instructional videos, or playthroughs of his compositions.

As an artist, I think this is one of the best ways to earn passive income. Make a YouTube channel, remain consistent, and make sure that you are uploading quality content.

Instructional eBooks

You are an artist, and you can write. If you can, then you can start selling eBooks that contain the right type of instructions people could use to start painting or start creating music. You can sell these online for a good price. If you want to go the extra mile, you can even go ahead and get them published if you think there is a user base out there who will read your books.

Merchandise

Another great of having a passive income stream is by selling merchandise. You can take your artwork and start getting it printed on t-shirts, mugs, book covers, bookmarks, phone cases, and other similar items. However, if you wish to keep your proper artworks stored for different purposes, you can make artworks that are specifically for these purposes, and then sell them as a part of your merchandise, I know it sounds crazy but as someone who is trying to generate a passive income stream, this idea is going to work wonders for you.
